Russell Rigler

Horticulturist (Level II)

The biggest buzz I have got from horticulture so far has been germinating seeds and making cuttings root; bringing plants to life and growing them on is a wondrous and rewarding pursuit

I am a member of the Wisley Propagation Team which supplies the garden with annuals, herbaceous perennials, shrubs, trees and more throughout the year. I have worked on this team for a year and a half, having previously worked for the Formal Ornamental Team looking after the Bowes-Lyon Rose Garden for two years. I completed a year’s training at RHS Garden Hyde Hall before accepting the job at Wisley and before this I was at the Savill and Valley Gardens for a year as a student.

The biggest buzz I have got from horticulture so far has been germinating seeds and making cuttings root; bringing plants to life and growing them on is a wondrous and rewarding pursuit. The production of strong and healthy plants is not easy and I am still learning the art gradually; getting to grips with environmental glasshouse conditions, pests & diseases, bio-control, watering and feeding requirements and resource management.  I am happy as long as I am learning something new and with the expertise on the Propagation Team I am happy every day.
