Large, very vigorous shrub rose about 2.5m tall, with very prickly, long arching stems and aromatic green leaves. Very fragrant, single to semi-double blooms have notched dark pink petals, white at the base, with prominent golden stamens, once-flowering in midsummer, then followed by red fruits (hips) in autumn; Penzance 1894

How to Grow

Cultivation

Grow in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil in full sun. Mulch with well-rotted organic matter in late winter or early spring, and for best flowering apply a general rose or shrub fertiliser in early spring and again in early summer. See rose cultivation
