Robust upright shrubby rose, about 1m tall, with dark green leaves. Very fragrant, fully double, crimson blooms with silvery overtones open flattish and quartered, once flowering in midsummer; introduced in 1834, a good old-fashioned rose for small gardens and tolerant of some shade

How to Grow

Cultivation

Grow in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil in full sun, tolerant of light shade. Mulch with well-rotted organic matter in late winter or early spring, and for best flowering apply a general rose or shrub fertiliser in early spring and again in early summer. See rose cultivation
