Old-fashioned climbing rose about 2.1m in height, with plentiful large, dark green leaves and a few hooked purple thorns. Very fragrant, large fully double blooms are copper and peach with tints of pink in the centre, repeat-flowering from summer into autumn. Said to be the first of the Tea roses, from 1833

How to Grow

Cultivation

Grow in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil on a sunny wall with shelter. Mulch with well-rotted organic matter in late winter or early spring, and for best flowering apply a general rose or shrub fertiliser in early spring and again in early summer. See rose cultivation

Propagate by hardwood cuttings in autumn, softwood cuttings (under glass) in spring or summer or by chip budding in summer
