Vigorous shrubby rose about 1.2m tall, with thorny stems bearing matt grey-green foliage. Fragrant, fully double, well-shaped blooms 9cm across, the centre packed with inward folding petals, are magenta-pink and lilac, fading towards the edges, once-flowering in midsummer; c. 1836

How to Grow

Cultivation

Grow in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil in full sun. Mulch with well-rotted organic matter in late winter or early spring, and for best flowering apply a general rose or shrub fertiliser in early spring and again in early summer. See rose cultivation

Propagate by softwood cuttings in early to mid spring, hardwood cuttings in late summer to autumn or by chip budding in summer
