Small, old-fashioned shrub rose about 90cm tall, with sparsely thorned stems bearing glossy, coarsely toothed green leaves, colouring well in autumn. Bright rose-pink single blooms to 5cm across, with golden stamens, are repeat-flowering from early to late summer, followed by small, orange-shaped red fruits (hips); c. 1880

How to Grow

Cultivation

Grow in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil in full sun or part shade. Suited to edge of woodland planting. Mulch with well-rotted organic matter in late winter or early spring, and for best flowering apply a general rose or shrub fertiliser in early spring and again in early summer. See rose cultivation

Propagate by softwood cuttings in early to mid spring, hardwood cuttings in late summer to autumn or by chip budding in summer
