Robust climbing rose about 3.5m or more tall, with almost thornless dark green leathery foliage. Long pointed buds open to fragrant, large, semi-double brilliant red blooms, opening to show golden stamens. Very free-flowering early in the season and repeat flowers well. Suited to part shade and north walls

How to Grow

Cultivation

Grow in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil in full sun, tolerant of some shade and north walls. Mulch with well-rotted organic matter in late winter or early spring, and for best flowering apply a general rose or shrub fertiliser in early spring and again in early summer. See rose cultivation

Propagate by hardwood cuttings in autumn, softwood cuttings (under glass) in spring or summer or by chip budding in summer
