Spreading, species rose about 1.5-2m in height, with browish stems densely covered in very fine thorns and dainty, ferny pale green leaves, tinted purple and crimson in autumn. Single blooms to 2cm across are coral red in bud opening soft pink, once-flowering in summer, followed by bright coral-red fruits (hips)

How to Grow

Cultivation

Grow in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil in full sun or part shade. Mulch with well-rotted organic matter in late winter or early spring, and for best flowering apply a general rose or shrub fertiliser in early spring and again in early summer. Propagate by softwood cuttings in early to mid spring, hardwood cuttings in late summer to autumn or by chip budding in summer
