A thicket-forming shrub rose to about 60-90cm tall, bearing semi-glossy, dark green leaves, tinted orange-gold in autumn, with furry, soft leaflets produced all along thornless, greenish-purple stems and scented, bright, cerise-pink, single blooms to 5cm across, opening in late summer, followed by small, rounded red fruits (hips) from the early flowers

How to Grow

Cultivation

Tolerant of a range of conditions but best in full sun with fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil. Mulch with well-rotted organic matter in late winter or early spring, and for best flowering apply a general rose or shrub fertiliser in early spring and again in early summer. See rose cultivation

Propagate by softwood cuttings in early to mid spring, hardwood cuttings in late summer to autumn or by chip budding in summer; propagate by seed; species roses can be propagated by seed but need stratification and germination may take two seasons
