How to plant a pot

You can easily add instant colour to your garden or patio by creating a container with seasonal shop-bought small plants.

  • Selection of seasonal plants
  • Container
  • Porous lining for container
  • Potting compost
  • Watering can

Top tip!

Clean up and reuse old containers, or recycle something with character to create an individual look which sets off your plants and creates a splash of seasonal colour.

Select plants for your container. Choose different height plants for interest and buy enough to fill out the container.

Line your recycled container with a porous material to stop compost escaping. Fill bottom with potting compost.

Layout your plants in their pots until you are happy with the design.

Step 4

Take off the pots and fill the gaps between the plants with compost, firming it down well. Water well. Move to the final position.
